China Automotive: From Tech Transfer Nation to Startup Super Nation
The print edition of the debut book by Nugentis founder Hagai Gat was published in August 2026. It traces how China moved from importing foreign automotive technology under joint-venture mandates to producing the vehicles, batteries and software platforms that now set the pace for the global industry — and argues that manufacturers outside China have consistently misread both the speed and the direction of that shift.
The book is drawn from more than twenty years of work inside the Chinese market, six of them based in Beijing, and from the transactions Nugentis runs across automotive, energy storage and water infrastructure. For clients and counterparties, it is the long-form version of the judgement we bring to a deal: which suppliers are durable, which capabilities are real, and where the leverage in a negotiation has actually moved.
A second title, The Awakening Condor, examining market entry across Latin America, is scheduled for 2027.
